At the heart of the Iroise Sea, in the Molène archipelago, lies one of the largest fields of algae in Europe. Nearby, the port of Lanildut has become, for a long time, the biggest port of algae unloading from the continent: 35,000 tons of them pass through each year and continue the activity of the famous seaweeds. To learn more, go to the Maison de l'Algue, which presents in detail the history and evolution of this typical coastal activity. Created in collaboration with the Iroise Marine Nature Park, Lanildut Seaweed House houses an interpretive center designed to appeal to the whole family. Through games, films, models or questionnaires, everyone can discover how algae are harvested and processed, the evolution of techniques over time, the activity of the seaweeds and the port of Lanildut ... Do you know, by for example, what does an algae field look like and what role do these play in marine biodiversity? You will discover it through an exciting virtual diving, very colorful, in the sea of Iroise. The algae of Lanildut, indispensable to our daily life After diving, return to the continent. But who is responsible for harvesting the algae and bringing them back to port? How are they processed before being used in cooking or cosmetics? At the House of the Alga, you will learn that the men of Lanildut and elsewhere have been cultivating seaweed for centuries. You will also discover that seaweeds use strange "scoubidous" daily and you will be able to immerse yourself in their daily life by observing the activity of the port of Lanildut. Passage to the laboratory, to the factory: the different stages of the life of the seaweed are also sifted. The opportunity to discover the incredible number of areas that appeal to their properties. Without knowing it, you certainly "use" seaweed far more often than you think!
